Balance Training and Fall Prevention
One in three adults age 65 and older falls each year, and falls are the leading cause of injury, trauma-related hospital admissions, and death due to injury. Many older adults and their families do not understand the factors that put them at risk for a fall and are unaware of how to reduce this risk. An effective fall prevention program has been shown to reduce fall risks through a combination of exercise and risk education.
The program includes:
- Individualized physical therapy evaluation of each patient’s deficits and goals
- Assessment of Functional Limitations
- Fall Risk Determination Testing
- Range of Motion & Strength Assessment
- Gait/Walking Assessment
- Patient Education Including:
- Fall Prevention Strategies
- Household Safety
- Use of Assistive Devices as needed
- Individualized Home Exercise Program
- Proper Shoe Wear
- Balance Training
- Strengthening and Mobility Exercises
- Fall Recovery Tactics
